I'm an aeronautical engineering PhD student that does a bunch of maths and physics. I balance the nerdiness out (or don't) with a passion for music and PC games.
I've had to teach myself a lot of the material I've had to learn thus far (rather than relying on lecturers). I learned to understand difficult material in terms of simple, physical ideas. I often helped my friends understand topics at university once I figured them out, and ended up tutoring a number of different engineering courses while I was at Wits. I've also tutored high-school maths before.
• 2014 - present - PhD (Engineering), University of Pretoria
• 2012 - 2014 - MSc(Eng) Aeronautical, University of the Witwatersrand,
• 2008 - 2011 - BSc(Eng) Aeronautical, University of the Witwatersrand.
• Winning the best student-paper award at an international conference in aeronautics in 2014,
• Seeing my favourite band live in Japan in 2016.
Mathematics
I use the basics of Engineering Mathematics on an almost daily basis. Having completed my MSc(Eng) in Aeronautical Engineering, I have a good knowledge of practical applications of the subject to interest the learner with.
Mechanics
Applied Mechanics, much like Engineering Mathematics, is a discipline I am involved with almost every day. Most people are familiar with Mechanics in every day objects -- they just don't know it yet!
Fluid Mechanics
With an MSc(Eng) and PhD (on the way) in Aerodynamics (which is just Applied Fluid Mechanics), this is not only a subject I am familiar with. It is a subject I am passionate about.
Mathematics
Studying engineering certainly helped improve my skills in Mathematics since I wrote my exams for A-Level Maths!
Advanced Mathematics
Studying engineering certainly helped improve my skills in Mathematics since I wrote my exams for A-Level Maths!
Physics
Fun fact -- I got the highest mark for Physics in South Africa in the November 2007 Cambridge A-Levels exams! I've also done a lot of Applied Physics in my undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
