I am currently a Physics student at the University of Pretoria, and have been a programmer for many years. I have a great interest and understanding of Mathematics, Programming and Physics.
I have been a TA for the CS department at TUKS. I have found that most subjects typically rely upon a few basic principles or laws, and that all else is layered upon these. This means that anyone can master them at their own pace by working through it step by step. I walk a student through these steps and ensure that they not only understand the material, but are able to apply it with ease.
• 2015: Matric(IEB)
• 2016-Present: BSc Physics(TUKS)
• Additional subjects: Core Computer Science courses, 1st yr Chemistry, Maths: Dynamical Processes, Discrete Structures, Mathematical Modelling (Matlab)
• A member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
• Received a full bursary to study Physics due my school academics.
• Received Honours in high school for academics.
Mathematics
Mathematics is central to much of what I do. With 86 for matric maths and having completed 1st and 2nd yr. maths courses, I have grown comfortable with the principles of mathematics, which I believe can be conveyed to anyone in an understandable way.
Information Technology
As an avid programmer, both academic and professional, I have experience in many things like desktop apps, Web dev and 3D games. I got 93% for IT in matric and have done 1st + 2nd yr. computer science courses (and am currently a TA for one of them).
Physical Science
As a BSc. Physics student at TUKS, naturally I have advanced far since school. I have also completed 1st year chemistry. I believe that high-school science can be made simple to any student, and should be interesting, not intimidating.
English
English is my home language. I am quite comfortable even with older texts such as Shakespeare or earlier translations of Cervantes. I enjoy writing and like to read a good book on occasion.
Afrikaans
I have spoken Afrikaans fluently since infancy. As one of the most widely spoken languages in SA, a good knowledge of Afrikaans is always useful. I believe that anyone can master the language with sufficient time, practice and help.
Accounting
Accounting is extremely useful in managing any form of investment or assets, personal or corporate. I believe that the underlying principles of Accounting are simple in nature and, as such, can be explained to any student.
Java
As an avid programmer, both academic and professional, I have experience in many things like desktop apps, Web dev and 3D games. I got 93% for IT in matric and have done 1st + 2nd yr. computer science courses (and am currently a TA for one of them).
Engineering Graphic Design
I achieved 83% for EGD in matric. I am especially familiar with CAD systems and digital modelling, as I use them rather often. I think that being able to read and make technical drawings is a very valuable skill.
Mathematics
Mathematics is central to much of what I do. Having completed 1st and 2nd year maths courses, I have grown comfortable with the principles of mathematics, which I am sure can be conveyed to anyone in an understandable way.
Physics
I am a BSc. Physics student at TUKS. I have always found physics fascinating, yet I believe that the underlying principles are beautifully simple and may be taught to any student.
Chemistry
Chemistry and physics are closely related at an atomic level, and an understanding of basic chemistry can be useful in physics, and vice versa. I always performed particularly well in chemistry practicals, routinely getting 80's and 90's for them.
Computer science
An avid programmer for many years, academic and otherwise, I have a broad experience of computing. Having done 1st and 2nd yr. CS modules, and currently a TA for one of them, I believe that I am well able to teach the basics of CS to any student.
Matlab
Matlab programming provides a powerful interface between Computer Science and Mathematics. Apart from WTW 152, I was once, while at school, on a Matlab project, using advanced features, which was taken to the Northern Gauteng Expo and awarded Silver.
C++
An avid programmer for many years, academic and otherwise. I have a broad experience of computing. Having done 1st and 2nd yr. CS modules, and currently a TA for one of them, I believe that I am well able to teach the basics of CS to any student.
Python
As an astrophysicist, the majority of our work is done using Python. Python is fast to implement and prototype and easy to learn. I have spent the past couple of years using mainly Python to implement machine learning algorithms and handle various astronomy data.
C++
C++ is probably the most powerful and widely spread programming language in use. I use C++ for most of my projects, which have varied in nature from servers built from scratch, to working with the Unreal Engine 4, among many others.
Java
Java is a very powerful and widespread language. I use Java for many projects, especially when they require networking or need to work on different platforms. I have also used Java for more advanced projects, such as some 2D and 3D graphics.
Afrikaans
I have spoken Afrikaans fluently since infancy. As one of the most widely spoken languages in SA, a good knowledge of Afrikaans is always useful. I believe that anyone can master the language with sufficient time, practice and help.
English
English is my home language. I am quite comfortable with older texts such as Shakespeare, earlier translations of Cervantes, and the like. I enjoy writing and like to read a good book on occasion.
Fernando will travel up to 10km from Wingate Park, Pretoria, Gauteng to you.
Approximate location and area of coverage.
“Fernando explains questions I have very well, he can already anticipate what information is relevant to my question and then give further explanation to make coding issues clear and understandable.”
Ciska
“Fernando is such a good tutor. it has only been a f ew weeks of me learning Afrikaans but my Speaking and understanding has improved significantly. ”
Palesa
“Fernando has helped me in a lot of areas and my improvement in regards to my results, is proof of that. He always seems to know exactly what I'm struggling with and makes it a mission for me to understand that particular topic (e.g. Parabolas, Hyperbolas & Exponential Graphs). I'm definitely more than satisfied with how helpful he has been and I am confident that with his help, my results will catapult to an even higher level by the time that I am in Matric.”
Constance
“Very effective and articulate in simplifying the complex boolean expressions with simple solutions.”
Muzi
“He knows what he is talking about and easy to following as a semi beginner. ”
