I am a Pharmacist by profession who is passionate about science and drug discovery. I also like music and playing with children.
I have always been a teacher, and throughout my studies I have been teaching be it friends or other students. I am very good at explaining concepts and simplifying sciences that many find intimidating. I also like one on one teaching as this allows me to understand where the student is really at, as some students are too shy in classroom environments.
• 2011 - 2016 Bachelor of Pharmacy, University of Harare, Zimbabwe
• 2017 - 2017 Master of Pharmacy, University of KwaZulu Natal in Durban (UKZN)
• 2019 - present PhD candidate in Chemistry, UKZN
• I passed my Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Chemistry Summa Cum Laude.
• I was Head Girl in high school.
Mathematics
Maths is my favorite subject. What has worked for most of my students is starting from the bottom, grasping foundational principles and then moving on to application and problem solving. It is not possible to apply a concept without understanding it.
Life Sciences (Biology)
I have an A in Cambridge O Level Biology and a B at A Level. I have assisted students who have found Biology to have too much content and they fear forgetting information in an exam. There are strategies that I have developed to assist such students.
Physical Science
I was very good at Physical Science in High School. I am well acquainted with the Cambridge, CAPS and IEB syllabi. From experience I have found that science principles are the same regardless of the syllabus the student is following.
Chemistry
I have a lot of experience in teaching the Cambridge syllabus as I am familiar with it and most of my students were using it. I haven't had problems teaching students using any other syllabi though, as the foundational principles are the same.
English
I have a distinction in First Language English and an A in English Literature at O Level and in addition to that an A in General Paper at AS Level. I have assisted many students who struggled with spelling, grammar and sentence construction.
Physiology
I have been well exposed to Physiology as a Pharmacy student and I have taught students during my studies.
Geography
I am very good at explaining geographical concepts in a way that is easy to understand. Like any other science, when a student has understood the main concept, it becomes easier and less stressful for them.
Accounting
Throughout my studies I have been teaching be it friends or other students. I am very good at explaining concepts and simplifying sciences that many find intimidating. I like one on one teaching as this allows me to understand where the student is really at.
Organic Chemistry
I am currently doing a PhD in Computational and Organic Chemistry. Chemistry is one of my strongest subjects and I have taught many students during the course of my studies.
Biochemistry
Biochemistry is still part of my PhD studies as I am looking at the biochemistry of medicinal compounds. I normally teach Biochemistry in conjunction with Pharmacology as most students prefer it this way, however, others opt to learn it on its own.
Pharmacology
I have been teaching Pharmacology since second year. Most students I encountered lacked confidence and found the subject to be intimidating. I have tried and tested strategies that I also used when I was a student and they have helped many.
Physiology
Physiology is a core subject in Pharmacy that I am constantly referring to due to the nature of my project. In 2017, I qualified as a SMaRT tutor, meaning I was deemed competent to run undergraduate tutorials in biological sciences at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
